 1980, Tel Aviv, Israel
Following his graduation from Beit-Berl College and Tel Aviv University, Itamar Jobani was singled out as one of the most promising young Israeli artists. He further continued his art studies at Pratt Institute, NY focusing on sculpture and new media.
Jobani creates installations using sculptural elements and video projections setting up a world of alchemy in which video projection becomes matter. His works bring together religion and cult, inventing a place that combines physical with spiritual, a complex play of beauty, power, Eros, sacredness and violence.
The works are interactive, making the viewer to change his pace, integrating into the environment. Jobani's sculptures, composed of hundreds of layers of cardboard, resemble topographical models. The encounter between the human figure and the topographical structure suggests a metaphorical connection between man and earth (in Hebrew the words are almost identical: 'Adam' 'Adama'/'Man' 'Earth'), and creates a contemporary variation on mythological stories.
