The way in which Markus Putze paints – or should we say draws, for after all it is more a stream than a block – his artworks combines both the careful storytelling of the old and the force of the new. For Putze the gallery is not an untouchable white space, but a space in which a language is revealed. His use of a mixture of painting, graphics, photography and text, builds layers that suggest time and give a sense of sound and movement. The pictures sprawl and conquer, albeit politely, for Putze is not naively tagging a wall, but asking for the viewer to think beyond the frame and contemplate the courageous presence of the free.
