An original member of the Winnipeg-based artist’s collective, the Royal Art Lodge (alongside Marcel Dzama and Michael Dumontier), Neil Farber is more importantly a creative pioneer in his own right. In spite of their naïve and child-like appearance, Farber’s works harbour a considered and sometimes sinister underlay, as deep emotions and a dark humour smoulder under the rich three-dimensional surfaces. His is a practice which consistently pushes the boundaries between the real and imagined to produce works of fascinating complexity and intellectual accomplishment. Farber has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto, the Arken Museum of Contemporary Art, Denmark, Sies + Höke, Dusseldorf, Carnegie Mellon, Pittsburgh, the Center for Contemporary Art, New Orleans, MoCA, Los Angeles, the Drawing Center, New York, the Power Plant, Toronto, De Vleeshall, the Netherlands and Seoul Museum of Art. Collections include MoMA, New York, West Collection, Pennsylvania and Olbricht, Germany.
