Born 1971 in Aalborg, Denmark
Based on simple ideas and subtle interventions, Larsen's work explores moments and conditions of human life. His sculptural and photographic work often utilizes common materials in nonfunctional ways to create poetic and complex manifestations. Larsen employs a host of different media and materials such as video, sound, photography and neon. For his exhibition at Volta NY new works are made from barbed wire, packing tape and 10,000 business cards.
Larsen received his BA (hons.) from Chelsea College of Art and his MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London, England. His work has been exhibited extensively: selected solo exhibitions include ‘Control Wanted’, Gallerie Vanessa Quang, ’Rising Floating Falling’, Kunsten - Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg, Denmark. Group shows include ‘Sharjah Biennial 9’, Sharjah, UAE, ‘Distant Relations’, Museum of Contemporary Art, Roskilde, Denmark, ‘About Time’, Kunsten - Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg, Denmark, ‘Une vision du monde’, La Maison Rouge, Paris, France, ‘The Mind is a Horse’, Bloomberg Space, London, England, ‘Presentness is Grace’, Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, England.
