My work explores contemporary Hyperrealism as the supercession of traditional Trompe L'oeil. The objects selected for the exhibition imitate objects normally found in an institution as part of the institution’s service or systems structure, not the objects of desire but objects antithetical to consumption. My Hyperrealism calls for reading the objects rather than merely sampling illusion. Essentially we look at -- then we look through -- the work to a deeper understanding of our relation to reality. Since these objects are the antithesis of commodity and commerce they gain a misplaced tension when they shift position to the center of the gallery, in meticulously crafted and transformed materiality. What emerges is a new system of significant signs in a constructed, socially antagonistic relational aesthetics. This is how we discover, articulate and interpret significant elements that intertwine semantically in a relational play of meaning.
